Pension Awareness Week: Your Simple 6-Step Guide to Taking Control of Retirement Planning

News

12th September 2025

Every year, Pension Awareness Week (PAW) brings a much-needed spotlight to saving for retirement. In 2025, it's running from 15 to 19 September, and the timing couldn’t be better. Let’s take this opportunity to give your future self a friendly nudge—and a solid plan

What Is Pension Awareness Week?
PAW is a national, annual initiative aimed at helping people across the UK understand their pensions better—and take proactive steps to shape their financial future. This year, it runs from 15–19 September 2025, with webinars, challenges, and tools designed to make planning approachable².

Top 6 Simple Steps to Get Started
The “6-Step Pension Challenge” is a great framework—simple and practical³:

  1. Check your current pension(s) – Know where your savings are.

  2. Track down lost pots – There’s estimated to be over £26 billion in forgotten pensions!³

  3. Take stock of all your pension holdings – Bringing everything together brings clarity.

  4. Estimate what you’ll need in retirement – A bit of forward-planning saves a lot of stress later.

  5. Assess the gap—and your options – Think, “Can I do more now?”

  6. Update your nominees/beneficiaries – Make sure your wishes are known and your loved ones protected.
